Rightwing Think Tank's Ridiculous "Confidential" Memo; This is a MUST READ document

Here are few of this doc's greatest HITS.... and by hits, I mean things that will turn your stomach.

C. Operation Angry Badger

Wisconsin was the focus of national attention due to recall campaigns waged in 2011, and campaigns are taking place in 2012 against Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and three Republican senators who voted for Act 10, the landmark collective bargaining reformlegislation adopted in 2011. We have been following the Wisconsin debate closely, reporting onit in Budget & Tax News, commenting in op-eds and LTEs and on blogs, doing television andradio interviews, and sending research and commentary to elected officials in Wisconsin andnationally. The recall elections of 2012 amount to a referenda on collective bargaining reform at the statelevel, making them of national interest. Successful recalls would be a major setback to the-14-national effort to rein in public sector compensation and union power. Heartland is the largest and most influential national free-market think tank in the Midwest, so we are in the right placeand with the right resources to help defend and secure Wisconsin’s recent gains.

We are contemplating five projects:

1. Recruit and promote superintendents who support Act 10

2. Explain the benefits of Act 10

3. Document the shortcomings of public schools in Wisconsin

4. Expose teacher pay in key districts5. Create blogs that shadow small town newspaper coverage of the controversy

We anticipate that this project will cost about $612,000. Maureen Martin, Heartland’s legalcounsel, with be the chief researcher and writer for this project. The anonymous donor haspledged $100,000 toward this project. We are circulating a proposal to other potential funders.

And if that wasn't bad enough, check out this plan to introduce "teach the controversy" tactics into the public education platform to deny scientific evidence regarding the danger of pollution.

H. Global Warming Curriculum for K-12 School

Dr. Wojick proposes to begin work on “modules” for grades 10-12 on climate change (“whetherhumans are changing the climate is a major scientific controversy”), climate models (“models are used to explore various hypotheses about how climate works. Their reliability is controversial”), and air pollution (“whether CO2 is a pollutant is controversial. It is the global food supply and natural emissions are 20 times higher than human emissions”). Wojick would produce modules for Grades 7-9 on environmental impact (“environmental impact is often difficult to determine. For example there is a major controversy over whether or nothumans are changing the weather”), for Grade 6 on water resources and weather systems, and soon.

This is how they operate.  For every politician-moron like Sarah Palin trying to walk upright and look folksy on TV, there are a hundred people just like this working over-time to control the national dialogue in any and every way they can.

This is the REAL CONSPIRACY. It's not a shadowy cabal or a secret-muslim-president or 9-11 truthers; it is a bunch of hired geeks hammering out how to pre-program your children in school and manipulate your local newspaper into believing, repeating and thinking the right set of buzz-words, slogans and truthisms.

Don't let the bastards have their way.

B. Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC)

Heartland sponsors the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), an international network of scientists who write and speak out on climate change.

Heartland pays ateam of scientists approximately $300,000 a year to work on a series of editions of Climate Change Reconsidered, the most comprehensive and authoritative rebuttal of the United Nations’IPCC reports.

Another $88,000 is earmarked for Heartland staff, incremental expenses, and overhead for editing, expense reimbursement for the authors, and marketing. NIPCC is currently funded by two gifts a year from two foundations, both of them requesting anonymity. In 2012 we plan to solicit gifts from other donors to add to what these two donors aregiving in order to cover more of our fixed costs for promoting the first two Climate Change Reconsidered volumes and writing and editing the volume scheduled for release in 2013. We hope to raise $200,000 in 2012

The part in bold is the important part. They aren't paying for an independent "hand's off" study where they pay the scientists to come up with the "correct answer". They are paying these guys to literally "prove nothing".

They aren't being paid to conduct science. They are being paid to couch a political argument in "scientific" clothing. They are being paid to reach a foregone conclusion and avoid any kind of experiment or scientific argument that will make them look bad.

Remember all the bull-crap over so called "Climate gate"? The fake controversy ginned up to confuse scientifically illiterate people into thinking there was some kind of "global warming" conspiracy to create fake pro-global warming research. Remember that?

Here is a company that is LITERALLY PAYING for bogus scientific data, using an official sounding ACRONYM by slapping an "N" onto IPCC, and they were nice enough to record how much money the disinformation campaign was going to cost.

Is that enough for you, yet?

How can one prove nothing?

::shaking head:: Idiots!

They claim humans are the pinnacle of life, the most important beings on the planet then deny that we can have an effect on the world!

I found it interesting that though the AGU has completely debunked Anthony Watt's weather station project, he is still collecting donations for it, and apparently large ones. The document says

Anthony Watts proposes to create a new Web site devoted to accessing the new temperature data

from NOAA’s web site and converting them into easy-to-understand graphs that can be easily

found and understood by weathermen and the general interested public. Watts has deep expertise

in Web site design generally and is well-known and highly regarded by weathermen and

-20-

meteorologists everywhere. The new site will be promoted heavily at WattsUpwithThat.com.

Heartland has agreed to help Anthony raise $88,000 for the project in 2011. The Anonymous

Donor has already pledged $44,000. We’ll seek to raise the balance.

This has about as much credibility as a Bible and as under a theocratic rule there is a demand that it be accepted as a truth. So much for skepticism.

Skeptical? Cool. Now debunk it. Good luck with that, because a great deal of it has already been confirmed as truthful.

I started Skeptic Vine as a way to increase the level and presence of active skeptics on News Vine.

This is related to skepticism because climate change denial science is at the top of the list of popular "bad science".

I want people in the skeptic vine group whom I am quite certain I will disagree with about a great many things.

I don't want people who all think like me, or believe like me. I think I made Grisham a mod even though he's a creationist (IIRC). Every laboratory needs tests and peer review. That's how people find the truth.

If you were some, i dunno, creationist, alex jones fan, who thinks the fluoride in drinking water is a commie/NWO/Illuminati death-cult plot then... well without a doubt discussions from now on would be more entertaining, but you'd still be welcomed to participate in the discussions and post articles for discussion so long as it relates to subject matter of interest to the modern 'skeptic movement.'

Perhaps, we can deal with specifics. First of all if you have read any of my Postings you would have quickly reached the conclusion that I do not represent a Creationist point of view, therefore you would know and not have to say "i dunno". I believe that translates to English, as I do not know.

Congratulations, by the way, on this Site and inviting me, I believe it was you, to participate. I enjoy a confrontational dialogue, as it spurs the mind.  To be clear, as to my particular point of view, I am Atheistic, capital "A", but prefer the designation of a Sapient Being or Sapien. I do not believe one can be more, be greater than a reasoning being; therefore such identification goes a long way to dispel the petty differences that separate us. I also hold that the Bill of Rights is the greatest document the world has ever seen. It is not a perfect document, but close.

I do not accept the Globalist view of  a Man induced global warming that threatens the planet, but I am certainly interested in any 'real' and specific evidence that you may like to bring to the table. this, of course, would rule out shot gun accusations and socialistic commentary.

Although you failed to mention your position on this matter, I am forced to assume that you are a proponent of the Man made global warming conspiracy. In my world, which may seem foreign or even alien to you, good manners and good philosophical ethic is to identify ones position. That said, your recommended website poses no new revelations or evidence. Of all that was put forth I will only comment on one point. If there are others that you would like to bring forward, please do so.

A side bar. Have you ever asked yourself the question: If there is no man made global warming who benefits, profits from the assertion that there is? What is to be gained from such a fear tactic and what is to be lost? Who promotes such a frightful scenario? Do they have an agenda and what might that be? Religion offers the GIFT to those it wants to control. The GIFT is Guilt, Intimidation, Fear and Threat. This was explained to me some 50 years ago by a Jesuit priest. Does the Man made warming conspiracy possess these characteristics?

Your website puts forth the idea that 9,400 scientists assert that man made global warming is a fact. In the attempt to find out who these people were, most, and still researching, seem to be connected to with the United Nations or an NGO funded by the UN. To oppose this very bias association we have the Global Warming Petition Project (please research) with 31,000 signatures, 9,000 of which are PhD's who assert that there is no conclusive evidence. All 31,000 names are posted.

This Jesuit priest also stated , "Do not question that, which you want to believe, if you want to believe it."

I would look forward to more discussion; providing that YOU bring your argument to the table.

As to a position, I'm a proponent of science. I was not aware that one must declare a position before posting a comment.

Your Petition Project has the same problem as with many endorsements. It is not always clear how well qualified those who endorse the position are, or whether the numbers listed are significant. There are about 23 million graduates with degrees in science and engineering. If 31,000 scientists signed the Oregon Petition, that is about 0.13% of those – hardly significant. Even then, the petition appears to be a hoax. In 1989, the Petition was mailed to thousands of Bachelor of Science students. It was formatted to appear as if it came from the National Academy of Science, but the organization quickly responded that the information was misleading and “the petition does not reflect the conclusions of expert reports of the Academy.” The mailing collected 17,000 signatures and 14,000 have been added since. Most anyone could sign it, many who signed were misled, and many were not scientists at all, as it is possible to get BS degrees in fields such as journalism, sociology, education, philosophy…

If you are swayed by endorsements, all the major scientific organizations in the world have endorsed a statement such as that of the American Chemical Society, ”Careful and comprehensive scientific assessments have clearly demonstrated that the Earth’s climate system is changing rapidly in response to growing atmospheric burdens of greenhouse gases and absorbing aerosol particles. There is very little room for doubt that observed climate trends are due to human activities. The threats are serious and action is urgently needed to mitigate the risks of climate change.” A recent CNN poll found that 97% of scientists who are actively engaged in research in climate science agree.

It is a little difficult to respond to your scientific position, perhaps it is my lack of scientific understanding. I am not impressed with numbers. I simply responded to your numbers, as put forth in the web site that you suggested and it would seem that my numbers are bigger then your numbers. i would suggest that you go back to my suggested website and in that; all your shot gunned assertions will be answered ie, qualifications, vetting and types of degrees. The letter to these people was quite simple and straight forward. It is also posted. Admittedly, you are correct in that 31,000 signatures is quite small when compared to all those you have degrees, but you also failed to acknowledge that those 31,000 signatures are almost 4 times the amount that you bring forward. i stopped being swayed by endorsement when I learned that Adolph Hitler and Joe Stalin had some pretty good endorsement. I have no doubt about CNN's poll. It would be like standing outside of a church after a Sunday service and asking the participants if there really was a god.

It would appear that this conversation has become mute and any continuation would have no value. I do believe your motivation is political and not based on science or any degree of objectivity, as to my thinking the entire spectrum of the global warming conspiracy is just that.

Certainly in a free society one is free to voice an opinion; it would seem however that those who promote this global warming conspiracy are intent on demonizing those who disagree and that speaks of something else. It is also difficult to speak in sincere tones when the person you are speaking to hides behind a vacuous identity or a sheet over their head.

I wish you clear and objective thinking.

The number 9400 you refer to is not a number people but the number of papers published in major journals.

There is no global warming conspiracy. Scientists make their decisions based on evidence and reason and that is where the evidence leads. People may voice their opinion on the matter, but unless it is supported by evidence, it will not have much credibility.
